松野屋は1945年創業、現在は自然素材を中心とした生活道具をあつかう荒物問屋。荒物という言葉自体、近ごろあまり耳にしなくなったが、ほうき、ちりとり、ざるなど、ちょっと前まではどこにでもあった簡単なつくりの日用品のこと。松野屋では、国内やアジアの町に直接足をはこび、町工場や閑散期の農家などで作られる日用品などを仕入れると同時に、生産者とともに今の時代のニーズにあったオリジナル商品を開発してきた。荒物は民藝と同じように人の手が生み出す日用品のことだが、それは民藝のいうところの「民衆的手工藝品」ではなく、より普通の人びとの日常の暮らしに根差した「民衆的手工業」から生まれる日用の道具たちだ。人として、まっとうな暮らしを営むなかで、長い年月をかけて培われてきた手工業製品には、買いやすい値段で、良い仕事をするものが多い。日常に使いやすく、今の暮らしにちょうど良い、「ベストでもベターでもない、ナイスなものづくり」から生まれる暮らしの道具たちとの出会いが、日々の生活を豊かに彩ってくれることを願っている。

Matsunoya, founded in 1945, is an aramono wholesaler dealing in daily tools made of natural materials. Aramono – miscellaneous daily items – is itself rarely heard these days. It includes brooms, dustpans, and sieves – the simple daily tools found in most homes just a few decades ago. Matsunoya staff visit local plants throughout Japan and Asia to purchase these items from small factories and off-season at farms. Working together with producers, we also develop original items meeting the needs of the age. Aramono and other daily goods include industrial handicrafts – not current “folk art” handicrafts. The original daily industrial handicrafts grew out of years of ordinary people making an honest living from practical goods at reasonable prices. We encourage our users to enjoy life more by using honest quality items for a more humanistic and natural lifestyle.
